In my experience the personal benefit in counselling relates directly and clearly to the sense
of involvement and participation of the client. Thus, I believe that the financial stake clients
have in their counselling is important.
Personally, I come from a middle-lower class background rather than a privileged background.
I remain sensitive to economic and distributive justice issues. My hourly fee is about 25% less
than current community standards in the Hamilton/Toronto corridor. In this way I hope to
work with as wide a range of persons as possible.
During the initial session I will discuss special circumstances and I am open to negotiating
small reductions in fees. I also encourage people with reduced means to supplement their
private therapy with specialized community services that are either government subsidized or
OHIP covered.
Hamilton hourly fee – $100 – $120. Office Location – 166 Ottawa St. S., Hamilton
Toronto hourly fee – $120 - $140. Office Location – 316 Dupont St., Toronto
These fees cover clinical supervision, related research, and record-keeping.
Fees are payable by cash, cheque, or prepaid email transfer. Receipts are provided which you
may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. These receipts can also be
applied to the medical portion of your income tax return.
When clients embark on a process of self-exploration and counselling, they are making an agreed-upon commitment to
themselves and to the therapeutic process. The chosen analytic frame of regular, consistent appointments provides a
safe and contained context to support clients in working through difficult issues and feelings, and this is the model I
strive for. Within a framework of negotiation, clients are expected to make a financial commitment to their regularly
scheduled appointments. In some cases, if unforeseen circumstances mean that you must miss your scheduled
session, an alternative time or phone appointment, within one week, may be arranged.
If there is no alternative to canceling your scheduled appointment, 48 hours’ notice is required or you will be asked to
cover the cost of the session.
